NEW ON THE MARKET
THE BAY OF LAGOONS (PLETT) 1763-1777

In 1763 the first white settlers in the Bay were stock farmers, hunters and frontiersman from the Western Cape. The stock farmers came as far as Swellemdam in search of grazing for the cattle.

In 1772, the Swede, Carl Peter Thunberg, encouraged by Governor Joachim van Plettenberg, visited the region. He was the first to document valuable observations on the bay and the Robberg.

A map, by an unknown cartographer, shows that a certain Cornelis Botha was already established in the Bay in 1777.

In our next addition we will explore Governor van Plettenberg's journey to The Bay of Lagoons
